WELCOME TO OUR CONSTRUCTION SITE!! We have really begun feeling the, shall we say "issues" that can arise while being on a construction site. Noise, heat, dust, heat, leaky ceilings, racoons and did I mention heat? Luckily we are all still pumped to drive through this so that we can see our beautiful new library! Our eyes are still on the prize and what a prize it will be!!
Construction is still in full swing (despite the wettest spring on record) and we see more and more of our new building every day. We now are seeing the beginings of our new roof!
Coming over the next few weeks!
The Crew will begin to "Ice and Water" the roof to make it weather resistant. "Ice &Water shield is an underlayment for sloped roofs that resists water penetration due to water back-up behind ice dams or winddriven rain."
Demolition of the current roof will begin including patching spots that need a little "refreshing". By the end of July we will have a weather tight roof. The exterior walls and sheathing will be put up and interior walls will be layed out and framed. Our new windows will be delivered and when the ceiling is weather tight and exterior framing is done they will begin installation of the windows.
What a shocking story! I better check on the damp on my roof and tell my friends this incident. With this story here, I can say that the constant checking of the house will eventually prevent an accident like this. You know, for the sake of my housemates. :)
ReplyDeleteIt’s very ideal that the roof is a weather-tight roof. You see, we rely on the whole house for protection in times of extreme weather conditions. In the same manner, I think keeping the research materials in the building needs a very secure roof, so that they can be used for a longer period. I hope you post the recent status and photos of this project. By the way, I hope I can come to see the library for myself. :)

I always get really excited when the roof construction begins. To me, it’s like the house – or in this case, the library – is really starting to take shape. I think the construction workers deserve to be commended for working, even through really wet weather, just to get everything done. I’m sure your roof looked fantastic when it was finally finished! Did you post any pictures of it?
